Our style and approach to your day…

Planning a wedding can be overwhelming with an extensive amount of information to consider such as flowers, dresses, and buttonholes. To simplify this process, we have written this piece to outline our style and approach towards weddings. This will give you an idea of how your special day will unfold. If you have any questions, no matter how insignificant they may seem, feel free to visit our contact page and reach out to us.

We believe that each wedding is unique and requires a personalised approach. We love it when couples want to do something different and are always open to going off-script.

During most of the wedding day, we take a hands-off approach, aiming to be more like flies on the wall and allowing the day to unfold naturally. While you're getting ready in the morning, we try to blend in and capture the natural interactions between you and your loved ones. We may occasionally direct you to the best lighting, but other than that, we won't be giving many instructions during this part of the day.

We enjoy capturing "storytelling" shots throughout the day. These typically include location and scene-setting images, such as capturing shots of the scenery, buildings, and rooms before guests arrive, as well as showcasing the weather conditions. These images help paint a picture of what the day was like and document the overall atmosphere of the wedding.

Before you and your partner leave your respective morning locations for the ceremony, we'll take some time to capture some group wedding party photos. These photos will include group shots and photos with your parents. These are similar to the family formals that we'll take later in the day. They're typically simple and classic, with some shots where you're looking at the camera and some more natural and candid shots.

After we take care of the family formals following the ceremony, we usually take the newlyweds away for about an hour to capture some creative shots. This includes 15 minutes with their bridal party. During this time, we aim to create a mix of shots, including one or two that are camera aware and the rest more interactive. We encourage our couples to take a little time to themselves during this period, as it's often the only alone time they'll get on their wedding day. We tailor this time to each couple's preferences and comfort levels - some may want more direction, while others prefer to be more natural and relaxed.

We feel that the family formals are just as important as the more artistic shots of the day since they are the ones that get printed and placed in family households. We usually have a list made of who is needed in each group and designate someone to help corral everyone, making the process as pain-free as possible. But don't worry, we always aim to have fun during this part of the day too!

During the drinks reception, we switch back to a more documentary style, moving around to capture genuine interactions between your guests. We are also happy to take any additional group photos that you or your guests may want, such as with old school or college friends or aunts and uncles. While you enjoy your dinner, we also take a break and eat (as we understand that photos of you eating may not be ideal!). If there are speeches during dinner, we quietly move around to capture shots of the speaker, your reactions, as well as those of your friends and family. And then it’s time to party! We capture the first dance and get right in there to capture the action shots when everyone joins in. Typically, we stay for about 30 minutes to document the fun.

In terms of our style, we strive to keep it as natural and candid as possible. The results will directly mirror the energy of the day, whether it's a wild party or a more quiet and intimate gathering, the images will reflect that. It's the same for the creative part of the day. We like to get to know our couples as much as possible before the day, so we can capture them as they are, rather than imposing something upon them.
